Mineral Nutrition:-


 1.Iron (Fe) :

-          Absorbed as Fe3+ or Fe2+.

Function:

-          Help in development of chloroplast and synthesis of chlorophyll.

-          Formation of flavo protein, cytochrome and ferredoxin.

-          It helps in energy generation.

-          Act as activator of various enzymes.

Deficiency Disorder

-          Inhibition of chloroplast formation.

-          Inter venial chlorosis occurs in young leaf.

-          Necrosis occurs.

-          Reduction of plant growth.

2.Manganese (Mn):

-          Can be absorbed as Mn2+.

Function:

-          Help in respiration and Nitrogen metabolism.

-          Act as a component of Oxygen evolving complex, in which photolysis of water occurs and produce oxygen.

Also help to activate various enzymes like Carboxylase, Dehydrogenase, reductase etc.

Deficiency Disorder

-          Plant show stunted growth.

-          Flowers become sterile.

-          Appearance of chlorotic and necrotic spot on young leaf.

3.Molybdenum (Mo):

-          Can be absorbed by H Mo O4- and Mo O22+.

-          Function.:

-          Play important role in nitrogen fixation.

-          It activates nitrogenase enzyme.

-          It’s a constituent of enzyme Nitrate reductase.

-          Cause marginal necrosis in leaf.

-          Also responsible for Mottled chlorosis.

4.Boron (B):

-          Can be absorbed as B4O72- and BO33-.

Function:

-          Help in nodulation of legumes.

-          Need for pollen germination.

-          Helps in Sugar metabolism and translocation.

-          Help in synthesis of pectin, proteins, and nucleic acids.

-          Responsible for cell differentiation and elongation.

Deficiency Disorder

-          Premature fall of leaf and seed.

-          Stuntedgrowth of plant

-          Small fruit size.

-          Reduces meristematic growth.

5. Zinc (Zn):

-          Absorbed as Zn 2+

Function

-          Involved in RNA synthesis.

-          Synhesis of IAA/ Auxin.

Deficiency Disorder

-          Stunted Growh of plants.

-          Less Auxin content in plants.

-          Leaf become small.

-          Leaf may show rosette like structure.

-          Bud become white.

6.Cupper Cu 2+ :

-          Absorbed as Cu 2+

Function :

-          Help in chlorophyll synthesis.

-          Activator of various enzymes like RuBisCO.

-          Component of important structures like Cytochromeoxidase, plastocyanin etc.

Deficiency Disorder

Black Potato tuber 


-          Reduction of vegetative and reproductive growth.

-          Decrease of CO2 absorption rate.

7. Chlorine (Cl):  

-          Absorbed as Cl

Function:

-          Maintain the solute conc. and ionic balance in cell.

It’s a component of Oxygen evolving complex, perform photolysis of water. 

Deficiency Disorder

-          Flower abscission can be seen.

-          Chlorosis and necrosis can be seen in leaf.

-          Bronze colour leaf may appear.
